3. Major ⚾

Major has one of the more intricate narrative arcs and character-driven stories for a sports-themed anime, and the action sequences on the field are executed with intense brilliance. And we notice this even more due to the fact that the sport being portrayed is baseball. We’re not sure if any of you have seen a full game of baseball, but trust us, it can become a pretty dull, drawn-out experience.
Enough of our biases, but when it comes to the story of Gorou Honda, son of a pro baseball player, Shigeharu. Gorou truly admires his old man Shigeharu and encourages him to keep playing despite the loss of his wife and being on a second-rate team. Things however take a turn for the worst (yeah, worst than a dead wife) Shigeharu takes a proverbial arrow to the elbow, an injury that forces him off the team.
But even amidst despair there is direction, which sees Shigeharu continue to play the sport, however no longer pitching but batting. And as if mirroring the trajectory of his father’s fortitude and passion, Gorou just as diligently pushes him to place his stamp on the Japanese Little League.
